Title: The role of Michel H\'enon in detecting regular and chaotic dynamics in conservative systems Author: Carles Sim\'o Departament de Matem\`atica Aplicada i An\`alisi Universitat de Barcelona, Barcelona, Catalunya {\tt carles@maia.ub.es} Talk delivered at the Michel H\'enon Memorial, Institut Poincar\'e Paris, December 4-5, 2013 Abstract: Michel H\'enon displayed a series of clever models for several phenomena. We shall consider the conservative case. The importance of these works goes far beyond presenting a simple model. Many of the key mechanisms in this area of the dynamics can be understood from the analysis of H\'enon and related models. In the talk we consider the quadratic area-preserving maps and the H\'enon-Heiles potential. Several related questions and extensions are reported.
